Our non-profit is born

Finally, it happened. We finally received the letter from the Finanzamt that we are officially a non-profit organisation! Pop the champagne!

This was no small feat. Lots of time, bureaucracy, and, of course, money. We have essentially been operating as a non-profit from the beginning, with all fees going back into the organisation, but it's a relief to finally make it official.

Why does it matter? Well, for one, we can now receive tax-deductible donations which feels like a fair deal, and a nice thank you to all of our generous supporters!

In the past we've offered limited scholarships, pay-what-you-can fees, and now solidarity tickets for courses, but for the most part, these fees haven't been supported by outside means, meaning, we have just been willing to take in less money because we felt it was more important to get knowledge into the hands of diverse people who could really use the support.

As we are funded entirely through attendance fees, it has been tricky to say the least, and our team has always been quite small because of this. Of course, we hope that will change soon! Lol.

But all that to say, we are extremely grateful for the donations we have received over the years and for those that will come in the future, and now we can offer you something in return which we are really happy about!

Additionally, it just didn't feel good to have to tax 19% to everyone, especially if you don't live in Germany, or for people barely able to afford the lowest fees. We wanted to show our commitment to thoughtful, affordable, human-led art and tech education and now we feel more properly setup to do so. So HOORAY!
