professional development for artists

Hello World!

The School of Machines, Making & Make-Believe is an organisation dedicated to the imaginative exploration of art, technology, design, and human connection. We learn and play with tools that make our brains and our dreams come to life! Wanna join us?

We're excited to offer this new one-day workshop for artists interested in taking the next step in their careers, from creating art to becoming a professional in the art world.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Professional Development for Artists is a one day workshop to teach artists how to excel at all the non-creative tasks vital to every artist's career, allowing them to maximize the time they spend creating and to develop a sustainable and satisfactory living from their art practice. In this intensive one-day workshop you'll gain skills in the areas of administration, strategic planning, project development, and funding.

According to the KSK, their visual artist members, across all age groups, earn on average 17,858 euros a year, which is below the national minimum wage in Germany. Recent studies in the UK report two-thirds of artists there earned less than £5,000 from their art practice. **

As creative humans, the business side of things may not come naturally. Often artists find themselves having to learn as they go but that road can be long and arduous, filled with invitations to exhibit without an artist fee, feeling overwhelmed by too much work, or anxiety from too few opportunities. This course is an investment in yourself and set up to take out the mystery, give you confidence, and provide practical knowledge you'll be able to use throughout your professional artistic career.
