the school of machines, making & make-believe turns 5!

This year, we celebrate our five-year anniversary! Since 2014, we've been committed to the imaginative exploration of art, technology, design, and the human connection.

For our 5th anniversary, we have a few different things in the pipeline! The first is a total make-over of the website. Welcome to our new and improved digital homebase! Over the years, we've been constantly inspired by our instructors, students, guests and team members. We've learned from each other, taught one another, we've laughed, we've cried. We hope our new website reflects this; the humanness of our community! Special thanks to designer Rodrigo Maceda and his team for the hard work and love they put into creating this wonderful new space for us! We love it! Warm thanks as well to artist Tartaruga Feliz for generously sharing her lovely animated .gif with us on our homepage. It's always little touches that help make a place really feel like home. In that regard, dear community, thank you all!

We still have many more alumni and projects to add in the coming days and weeks so keep an eye out! If you're an alum with updated pics, bios, projects and links to share, please get in touch!

We've realised we need to step it up as many super brilliant humans and projects have come through our doors and we want to give the artists and their work all the love and attention they deserve!

In addition to our website, we're also excited to introduce a new format for our Money and Evidence programs. These are two new topics that we feel are vital for many of us, so we've decided to make these programs as accessible as possible. They are now each special one-week long intensives and at a much lower fee. The class size will be kept small as always. This is an experimental format for us but if all goes well we hope to repeat it and offer two one-week programs per year focused on critical tools for artists and activists.

Stayed tuned to see what else we're doing to celebrate this summer!
