Over recent years, artists more and more are beginning to explore olfaction, or the sense of smell, as yet another way to engage humans in storytelling. What can gaining a deeper understanding of this oft used but not often thought about sense explain to us about the invisible forces that draw or repel us to connect with others and our overall experiences of being human?

The aim for this one-week intensive workshop is to learn as much as we can about olfaction, scents and designing smell experiences. We'll get hands-on with as many scent harvesting techniques (enfleurage, mixing scents, distilling) as possible while being inspired by scent artists active within the field. We'll also do some nose training and get into space design using scents. Additionally, this course coincides with our transmedia storytelling program. During the program, both groups will come together to experience what smell brings to the table as far as virtual and mixed reality experiences.

This course is for people who have  always wanted to delve into the world of olfaction but have  never been sure of where to begin. This one-week intensive will equip you with the technical expertise and confidence to continue  working on your own projects long after the course has ended.
